I suck at getting dressed. No really, I do. It takes me a really
long time to choose my outfit, do my makeup and my hair, but what takes even
more time is finding the motivation to even bother getting dressed. I’m super
lazy. I’m lazy and incredibly distracted. I will spend countless hours refreshing
my newsfeed on my Facebook, checking my instagram, reblogging numerous images
on tumblr, and scrolling through fashion blogs waiting for something else to
happen even though I know nothing will, just because I can’t be assed to NOT do
it.
But it’s true! I want to be bothered to do “stuff”, but I
just can’t be bothered to be bothered! Hence why it takes me so long to get
ready…there’s just too much happening on FB... and by “too much” I mean nothing
at all.
I think my vanity is the epicentre of all the chaotic
insecurities and problems in my world. I pretty much can’t do anything unless I
feel like I look good. And if I don’t look good, face or outfit, I usually prefer
to stay home and do nothing.
There are even times when I’ll spend an hour getting ready
and then right at the very last minute decide not to go. That tiny, stupid,
inkling and shadow of self-doubt puts me in a negative mind-set and keeps me at
home.
This could be a massive generalisation, but I’m pretty sure
this isn’t what solely happens to me, but what happens to a lot of our generation
too. Generation lazy & vain…and there I go, sounding like my mum and dad.
And at the risk of sounding like a current affairs show on
free to air TV, I think it’s our social media lifestyle to blame. Ironic,
considering I have chosen to venture down the path of social media as a career
choice, and even more ironic as I am writing about this on a blog.
Even so, as much as I like to bitch and moan about this, I
don’t think I could give it up. I’m addicted to pretty much every social media
phenomenon there is. Are we really becoming an anti-social generation? If
anything, we’re more social and just incredibly tech-savvy.
In saying this, it really pisses me off when you’re out to dinner
with friends and everyone’s texting their irrespective partners because they
can’t live without each other for five minutes, so maybe it’s just a case of
knowing our manners.
Generations before us say that we’re fucked up because of
our twittering ways but I don’t think this is right. We’re just different. The
world is changing and heading in the direction of social media, people need to
accept it and stop being so reluctant to change.
